The Ranger series from Silva is definitely the most popular compass series for mountaineers, hikers and hunters. Ranger is a good navigation compass full of nice features. There is a built-in measuring scale for 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps, a magnifying glass and a removable safety strap that is attached to the compass so you don't lose it on the go. Inside the capsule is a declination scale so that your compass can be calibrated exactly according to your location and thereby avoid false readings. The capsule has DryFlex rubber grips that provide a good grip even when it rains or snows. Small luminous marks make it possible to use the compass even when it is completely dark. A really good all-round compass that can pretty much handle any task you could throw at it.
